Hardwicke is committed to providing opportunities for young people to have access to the Bar to provide information, make connections and demystify what it’s like in a barristers’ chambers.
We have been running a programme of work experience placements since the summer of 2010.
Our aim is to offer students aged between 15 and 17, and from all backgrounds, a week-long placement, which gives them the opportunity to become part of the staff team for the week, learn about the different support roles in chambers, undertake some administrative tasks, and spend time with barristers. Most students who join us on the programme also get an opportunity to shadow a barrister at court during their placement.
We are particularly keen to encourage students from state schools, BAME backgrounds and from lower than average socio-economic backgrounds to apply, as these groups tend to be under-represented in the legal profession.
How to apply
In order to make the process fair, we ask people to apply. Applications for 2018 are now closed but the applications process for 2019 will commence on 31/10/2018 and a link giving details on how to apply will appear in due course.
In order to analyse the effectiveness of our programme we ask anybody who applies for a position at Hardwicke to complete the Hardwicke Equality and Diversity survey.
