Insurance team news

The Hardwicke Insurance team have had a busy year, particularly internationally.

The big story has been the demise of Enterprise Insurance, a major Gibraltan insurer.   Nigel Jones KC and Sarah McCann are involved in a complex array of claims relating to the insolvency including:

  • losses relating to the underwriting of the Icebreaker investment scheme
  • a £47m arbitration
  • recognition of the insolvency in England
  • the impact on the motor claims book
  • a £11m claim relating to gap insurance
  • disclaimer of solicitor professional indemnity policies and
  • claims against the directors

The Enterprise case illustrates Hardwicke’s ability to utilise expertise in a number of different practice areas – in this case Commercial Dispute Resolution, Construction, Insolvency, Insurance and Professional Liability.

Paul Reed KC continues to be involved in some of the largest construction insurance related cases around, assisted by various members of Hardwicke.  His two market leading text, Construction All Risks Insurance and Construction Professional Indemnity Insurancewhich the Hardwicke team all contributed towards, have put Hardwicke at the forefront of this very active area of the insurance market.

Indeed such is the team’s renown that David Pliener was shortlisted for Insurance Junior of the Year 2018 at the Chambers Bar Awards.
