Hardwicke Building is delighted to announce that Madeleine Heal has joined chambers from 5 Raymond Buildings. She will be part of the specialist Intellectual Property Group at Hardwicke led by Mark Engelman.
Recognised by the legal directories as “heavyweight” with “amazing IP skills”, Madeleine has developed an impressive practice focusing on advocacy-based intellectual property, media, competition and commercial law. Her IP work is split between patent, trade mark, copyright and design right with a focus on pharmaceutical and mechanical patents.
Recent high profile cases include acting successfully for The FA in trade mark and copyright litigation over the 1966 England mascot WORLD CUP WILLIE; representing Channel 4 in an action by Miss World alleging infringement of the MISS WORLD trade mark in a documentary on transsexual beauty pageants; advising the Dubai Mercantile Exchange on patents raising similar issues to the US case ICE v NYMEX; representing Lacoste in design right litigation; an infringement of copyright and passing off claim for Australian band ‘Manjari’ against a former member and her UK producer; and representing comedians Matt Lucas and David Walliams over publication of unauthorised ‘Early Years’ DVDs.
Commenting on her arrival at Hardwicke, Madeleine Heal said: “This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic and forward thinking set. I look forward to working with Mark Engelman and other members of chambers to further develop our capability in all areas of IP”.
Mark Engelman added: “I am delighted Madeleine has chosen to join Hardwicke. Her arrival is the next phase in the strategic development of the IP Group at Hardwicke creating a team of recognised heavyweight IP practitioners.”
Nigel Jones QC, Head of Chambers commented: “Madeleine’s arrival is part of the development of Hardwicke as a credible alternative to the established IP sets for solicitors, patent and trade mark attorneys, in-house counsel and industry. We now have recognised practitioners across the patent, trade mark, copyright and design right spectrum. Our strategy is to consolidate this leading civil set’s capability to respond to our clients’ requirements across the broad range of civil expertise.”
