Hardwicke has expert barristers with experience in inquests and inquiries. Our recognised expertise in clinical negligence and personal injury makes us well placed to provide specialist representation and advice in inquests and public inquiries.

Members regularly act in jury inquests, as well as inquests before the Coroner sitting alone. We have experience in acting in judicial review proceedings arising out of the decisions of Coroners.

Members have particular expertise in inquests where Article 2 of the Human Rights Act 1998 is engaged.

We represent families and other interested persons including NHS Trusts, private healthcare providers, doctors, insurers, local authorities, businesses, and drivers.

Members’ experience includes inquests involving:

  • Issues arising out of detention of vulnerable people, including mental health treatment
  • Road traffic accidents

Members of the team are instructed as junior Counsel to the high-profile Grenfell Tower Inquiry, an independent public inquiry, set up to examine the circumstances leading up to and surrounding the fatal fire at Grenfell Tower on 14 June 2017.

Members have drafted written submissions/ responses, appeared as advocates before (and sat on/chaired) a wide range of different panels, tribunals, inquiries and committees.
