Today, the Hong Kong Arbitration Ordinance (Cap. 609) (the "Ordinance") comes into effect. The product of a review process stretching back into the late 1990s, the Ordinance has the self-stated aim of facilitating the fair and speedy resolution of disputes by arbitration without unnecessary expense. Transitional provisions apply in relation to arbitration and proceedings commenced prior to today.
